Chronos is gone forever. There are no second-hand units to be found here. Yes, we have a limited number of spare parts, so we can repair a unit should that become necessary. Don’t hesitate to ask!
Chronos was produced for almost 15 years. For the next scheduled build, end-of-life components resulted in the need for redesign (driving up cost). Looking at the total cost to produce a unit since the 2018 and 2025 tariffs, Chronos and Athena were nearly identical. We never needed to significantly raise Chronos’ price previously, since we had sufficient stock purchased pre-tariff. In other words, Chronos and Athena would have been the same price today due to those tariffs! Chronos was our lowest-volume seller, which offered no relief.
Chronos would often be incorrectly purchased for other things other than clocks, where it clearly was under-powered. Then we have the cost of the returns. Athena has helped that situation immensely.
When one considers the slight additional cost of Athena, remember that it is still of superior quality, more compact, and far lower cost than any other converter available, and the only device with the ultra-precision needed for powering clocks and turntables. That will likely be the case for quite some time to come. It’s a fantastic product!
The decision comes down to whether you are happy having a clock or turntable that runs slow or not, and what that is worth to you personally.
Naturally, the next question might be: Will you ever produce a variable speed version of Athena? Simple answer: We trial-marketed a variable speed version of Chronos a few years back. The response was limited. If there had been more interest, we might have considered it. So for now, the answer is: Very unlikely. But we welcome your feedback on this!
